Distinctive Unit Insignia


Description/Blazon

A silver metal and epoxied shield shaped device 1-1/8 inch in height blazoned as follows: Gules, a fess Azure fimbriated Argent, in chief a globe party per pale of the first and second grid-lined of the third, in base a fleur-de-lis of the last.  Attached to sides of the shield, a silver scroll inscribed “VESTIGIA NULLA RETRORSUM” in blue.


Symbolism

The shield is red for Artillery.  The blue fess indicates Federal service in 1898. The globe, outlined and grid-lined in white, is divided vertically red and blue to indicate service of the regiment on two sides of the world.  The fleur-de-lis denotes the unit’s service in France.


Background

The distinctive unit insignia was originally approved for the 116th Field Artillery Regiment on 14 April 1925.  It was amended to correct the description on 20 April 1925.  It was redesignated for the 116th Field Artillery Battalion on 13 October 1942.  It was redesignated for the 116th Artillery Regiment on 7 July 1960.  The insignia was redesignated for the 116th Field Artillery Regiment on 31 July 1972. The insignia was amended to change the design and symbolism on 11 August 2023.

Crest.  That for the regiments and separate battalions of the Florida Army National Guard: On a wreath of the colors Argent and Gules an alligator statant Proper.

Motto.  VESTIGIA NULLA RETRORSUM (There is No Going Back).
